The new Mayor of Sosúa (Vladimir) has been inaugurated on 16 August. We've heard many positive things about him, and he apparently has big plans for developing our tourist town.
But you see all kinds of activity in Sosúa.

There are new buildings being constructed everywhere, and the business community has big plans for the town. A pub has recently opened in the Pedro Clisante, and they organise a band to play every weekend; this is a small semi-closed pub with a great atmosphere. We'll be visiting shortly to try it out.
A little further along the street a new nightclub is being built called 'The Velvet Glove'. The blonde owner of the Voodoo Lounge also has big plans to give more allure to the nightlife in Sosúa. He's also the owner of this new hotspot, and plans to give his business a more spicy atmosphere.
At the back of the Lifebar, where our recently married Alex is the host, they are also busy renovating to make way for a new disco to compete with d' Classico. So, we can safely conclude that things are going well in Sosúa.

Omdat Henk Jaap, de altijd vriendelijke manager en gastheer van hotel Voramar, precies 5 jaar in dienst van het hotel is en omdat hij ook nog zijn verjaardag vierde, was het echt tijd voor een feest. Als we zeggen feest dan bedoelen we feest in de stijl van Henk Jaap Prakken: 'Feesten en Beesten dus!'
Deze uit Sneek afkomstige horecaman werd 5 jaar geleden door Harald als manager van het hotel aangesteld. Het was onder andere de bedoeling dat hij het aantal bezoekers van het hotel zou opkrikken. Nou, dat is hem wel gelukt. Vooral menig Nederlander weet nu dat een overnachting in het hotel een prima ervaring is. De appartementen zijn er ruim en luxe ingericht en hebben allemaal een balkon met uitzicht op de tuin en zwembad.

Henk Jaap had al zijn vrienden en kennissen uitgenodigd waaronder ook heel veel vriendinnen trouwens. Tegen vijf uur in de middag liep de bar vol met genodigden en de stemming zat er al snel goed in. Ze waren er allemaal komen opdraven waaronder natuurlijk Dickie, Koos, Henk, Wim, Maurice en vele gasten van Don Andres en Atlantico. De bedoeling was dat er ook gezwommen zou worden. Maar daar werd maar spaarzaam gebruik van gemaakt omdat het toevallig een wat frisse dag was.

As Henk Jaap (the ever-friendly manager and host of Hotel Voramar) has been at the hotel for exactly five years, and it also happened to be his birthday, this was double reason for a big party. And when we say party - we mean party!
Five years ago Henk Jaap, who hails from Sneek (the Netherlands), was appointed hotel manager by Harald. It was also hoped that he would increase the number of visitors to the hotel, which he has certainly done. Dutch tourists, in particular, know that staying in the hotel is a great experience. The apartments are large and luxurious, and all rooms have a balcony with view over the garden and pool.

Henk Jaap invited all his friends and acquaintances to the party, including lots of girls. Around 5pm the bar was full of guests and they were all getting into the party mood, including Dickie, Koos, Henk, Wim, Maurice and many guests from Don Andres and Atlantico.
Guests were also supposed to swim at the party, but few people actually went in the pool, because it was a fairly cool day.

This long awaited event was held on Saturday evening, 18 March. The main street, Calle Pedro Clisante, was closed to traffic from the 'Fat Herman' bar up to the 'Pluto Bar'.
Podia were installed at both ends of the street so that the bands could be seen by everyone. The street was full of terraces and stands where you could by snacks and cold drinks.
By around 10pm the street was full of visitors and the party atmosphere was terrific. The terraces in front of 'Schnitzel Paradise', 'Alf's Tours', 'Dulce Vista', 'Hermando', 'Nativos', 'Britannia Bar', 'Benelux Bar', and 'Tipico Alberto' were completely full. Several businesses, such as the Benelux Bar and Schitzel Paradise were also serving a delicious BBQ. Dominican street vendors were all present, selling anything from roasted goat meat, baked bananas, to cooked pork. Of course you could also buy small pancakes and sugar candy.

El Tiburon
The bachata band El Tiburon played fantastic! However, the guitarist himself was placed fairly near the back. The group consisted of musicians from the 'Julian Julian' and 'El Colibri' bands. But the music sounded good and everyone started dancing in the street.
At the other end of the street the rock group ´Crash´ was encouraging everyone to rock-and-roll to their music. The tourists particularly enjoyed the music from the 1970s. The guitarist showed, with his long blonde hair, that we knew exactly how old rockers should be dressed.

Kees runs a restaurant together with his brothers in Luxemburg. Everybody who knows it tells us it's a very nice place. But, yes, he has to work very hard, day and night. It used to be calm in the winter season in the early years. Today it's busy all year round, then it's fall, Christmas, New Years Eve, spring and summer holiday, it's always busy in the restaurant. To come to rest once in a while, Kees comes to Sosúa for a short break regularly where is he is very popular. Most of the time not more than a week then he has to hurry back to his restaurant where his brothers look out for him impatient.

Last week Kees visited Sosúa for the 25th time to have a short break from work. Of course he stayed in the single hotel of Sosúa, Voramar And above all, it was also his birthday, so a double reason to have a party. Everybody was invited and at 8 the party started. Dancing, singing and a lot of drinking, beer or stronger stuff. Everybody was enjoying themselves, but the birthday boy the most. At the end of the party he was on top of the bar dancing the 'perito' with one of the camareras (waitresses). But Kees, you came here to have a rest?
Kees, we hope to see you at least another 25 times in Sosúa.

NewDisco/Night-club

This Friday evening another new disco, named the 'NV Club', will celebrate its opening night. Rumour has it that a sexy show from Santiago will be performing on the opening night.
Of course this disco is also very nicely decorated, with several bars and dance floors on different levels. We'll check it out on Friday night and will keep you posted.

Good news for the partygoers among us! Two weeks ago D'Lantinos opened its door again. They mainly target the local inhabitants of Sosúa, which shows in their choice of music. They play a lot of Reggaeton and sometimes some salsa, merengue and bachata. If you are interested in spending a real Dominican evening, you should check out D'Latinos. Its particularly busy at the weekends and they play a lot of Dominican music. They even have bachata competitions, fashion shows and reggaeton competitions. In short, it's fun.

The former disco Tucan, situated in front of Merengue club, will open its door in the middle of June. The name has changed to 'Club X'. The 'X' stands for something naughty about the club. The girls working there will be scantily dressed. They will also present sexy shows at the weekends. The regular Sosúa visitors will be pleased to see these two new initiatives.

The entire hotel is redecorated at the moment. A tropical picture appeared on the façade of the hotel. Besides the entrance of the hotel, they set up a terrace at the street side. The somewhat small bar at the pool also needed a complete renovation. It was a small and cosy bar, but sometimes too small and when it rained you couldn't always keep it dry. Harald agreed something had to be done. It wasn't easy and Harald appears to have grown a few years in age in a month time, just for the construction of the new bar. But last Saturday the opening was celebrated. It became a very nice and luxurious bar. They used a lot of marble and expensive brands of wood and the entire bar has a roof over it. So even if it rains you stay dry.
